Jack's still missing!

It's been a rough week without Jack. Timothy has had a pretty hard time getting calmed down once he gets worked up. Usually I just give him Jack, and he'll stroke his ears until he stops fussing. Or chews on Jack's ears, as the case may be. But without Jack, everything has changed. It's amazing to me how one little toy can affect us so deeply.

And today was especially hard because Timothy has been sick. He hasn't been sick yet since he was born, and I knew the day would come when he had his first illness. So far it hasn't been too bad--just a few extra diapers to change and a fever--but we're worried it might be malaria, since the fever seemed to come and go a lot today, along with his droopiness. Oh dear. I've never had malaria, so I kinda thought maybe he'd get my luck--or genes, or whatever it is that's kept me safe all these years. Alas. And since Timothy is sick, I wish we had Jack even more than I usually wish it. I know it would comfort Timothy so much to be able to snuggle up with his furry friend. *sigh* We checked the lost and found at school, and on Sunday we'll check in the nursery, just to make sure I didn't miss it last week. But I'm desolate. The realist in me knows it's likely we'll never see poor Jack again. And we'll miss a good friend.
